What to Expect on Installation Day for Your Roof Replacement

roof replacement

A roof replacement is a big upgrade—but installation day doesn’t have to be stressful. At JNR Roofing, most roof replacements are completed in just one day, and knowing what to expect ahead of time helps everything go smoothly.

Below is a step-by-step breakdown of what happens on installation day and what homeowners should do to prepare.

Arrival & Setup: Early Morning Start

What happens:

  • Roofing materials and Dumpster are delivered

  • Driveway and yard are protected with tarps

  • Landscaping and property are covered

  • Equipment is staged safely

👉 Expect noise—roofing is loud, especially during tear-off.

Tear-Off: Removing the Old Roof

The first major phase is removing the existing shingles and underlayment.

What we do:

  • Remove old roofing materials

  • Inspect decking for damage

  • Replace any rotted or compromised wood (if needed)

  • Clean and prep the roof surface

This is the noisiest part of the day, but it’s also the quickest.

Installation: Building Your New Roof

Once the roof is prepped, the new system goes on.

Installation includes:

  • Ice & water shield

  • Synthetic underlayment

  • Starter shingles

  • Architectural shingles

  • Ridge caps and ventilation

  • Flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights

Our crews follow manufacturer specs and local building codes to ensure long-term performance and warranty compliance.

Clean-Up: Respecting Your Property

Clean-up is not optional—it’s part of the job.

What to expect:

  • Debris removal

  • Magnetic nail sweep of yard & driveway

  • Final walk-around inspection

  • Jobsite left clean and safe

Final Inspection & Wrap-Up

Before leaving, we:

  • Inspect the completed roof

  • Confirm ventilation and flashing

  • Review next steps with you

  • Answer any questions

  • Dumpster will be picked up

Most homeowners are surprised by how fast and organized the process is.

What Homeowners Should Do to Prepare

A little preparation goes a long way 👇

✅ Inside Your Home

  • Remove wall décor or fragile items

  • Expect vibrations—especially on upper floors

  • Secure attic items if accessible

✅ Outside Your Home

  • Move vehicles out of garage and the driveway before 7am

  • Park in street a few houses down

  • Clear patio furniture, grills, and decorations ( Ask a team leader if you need assistance)

  • Trim back branches if possible

  • Keep pets safely indoors

✅ Day-Of Tips

  • Plan to be home (but not required)

  • Noise is normal—consider errands or working remotely with headphones

  • Avoid walking around the home perimeter during installation
